The Hague Hearing Centre (THHC) is a tribunal that opened in 2018 by City Counsel Member Saskia Bruines. She said that “THHC will contribute to how The Hague presents itself as the international City of Peace and Justice and will also assist in the economy of The Hague. International arbitration has had an enormous growth in the past couple of years. Due to The Hague’s neutrality and prominent position in the legal field, it is the ideal location for international arbitration.”
THHC will focus on Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) and therefore has met all the conditions to introduce arbitration and hearing proceedings. As the name says already, it is located in The Hague, which is alternatively known as the City of Peace and Justice, the THHC therefore claims it has a well-established network in regards to legal institutions and organisations.
The THHC aims to be a highly recognized hearing tribunal in regards to the quality of its hearings, the services it offers and the reputation that it has garnered. Furthermore, THHC has strong hopes that the THHC will be a commonly used facility when concerning arbitration, mediation and the Jurisdiction of the Unified Patent Court.
THHC is not only meant for national disputes, but can also facilitate international disputes at the same level of expertise. The THHC has facilitated the entire centre to be equipped with all necessities in order to accommodate all kinds of different ADR procedures. Together with the well-established network the THHC has built up, the THHC makes it possible to not only make sure ADR procedure are effective, but also to host courses, network events and congresses.
In order to set up the THHC, The Hague has subsidized the facility. The municipality of the Hague believes that the THHC is a valuable addition to the already established Permanent Court of Arbitration and the United States-Iran Claims Tribunal.
