Silicon Valley Arbitration and Mediation Center
Across the globe, many arbitral institutions exist. But if you are interested in the global technology sector, you will probably appreciate the unique features of the Silicon Valley Arbitration and Mediation Center (hereinafter SVAMC). SVAMC is a non-profit foundation that is located in Palo Alto, California, and promotes efficient technology dispute resolution.[1] As many of you might know, Silicon Valley is made notably by the number of technology companies located there.[2] Think of companies like Apple, Google, Facebook, and Netflix. [3]
SVAMC is a relatively “new kid on the block”, as it was set-up in 2014 as a non-profit foundation. Statistics show its rapid growth and role as the global voice of technology dispute resolution. The mission Statement of SVAMC is the following one: “Silicon Valley Arbitration & Mediation Center (SVAMC) serves the global technology sector by promoting business practical resolution of disputes.” This, of course, comes with a particular vision. As SVAMC aims far smarter, faster, and cheaper technology dispute resolution, it promotes innovative technologies to assist in the resolution of technology and technology-related business disputes. Furthermore, SVAMC advances the use of technology dispute resolution not only for companies but also for individuals.[4]
Furthermore, SVAMC is very active in the education of technology dispute resolution. They also provide information regarding the significant change in the use of technology during the pandemic. Think about guidelines, online arbitration or mediation website, and other essential advice that is necessary in these challenging times.[5]
Moreover, the executive leadership contains five members. The management is coordinated through the Executive Committee and various operating committees and task forces. SVAMC also promotes young legal professionals, as it has established from day one its young IA aficionados group and membership is complimentary. It is worth mentioning that training is developed by and directed by students and young practitioners.[6]
SVAMC also makes the Tech list. This annual list provides us with The World’s Leading Technology Neutrals. It is a highly acclaimed, peer-vetted list comprising exceptionally qualified arbitrators and mediators in the US and globally, all having particular experience and skill in the technology sector. Furthermore, SVAMC offers membership opportunities for those who are experienced practitioners and interested legal practitioners. As earlier mentioned, it promotes SVAMC young professionals, meaning that memberships’ opportunities also include the young practitioners.[7] [8]
